Because technology is a vitally important part of any work environment, all Ole Miss MBA graduates possess strong competency in the productive application of information technology in a broad range of business environments. MBA students are required to own a laptop computer, which is used extensively throughout the program.
Laptop Requirements
All students are required to have a laptop computer when they begin the MBA Business Foundations class in August. A personal printer is also very helpful, but not required. Printing services are provided for MBA students in the MBA classroom. Both wired and wireless network access is available.
The MBA program has aggressively incorporated the use of laptop computers into the curriculum. Recognizing that it is important for students to have the correct specifications on their laptops, the MBA program strongly recommends that incoming MBA students purchase the specially configured laptop unit made available through Dell, Gateway or IBM computer companies. Obtaining the specially configured MBA laptop unit assures new MBA students they have a system that meets the necessary specifications of the School of Business Administration.
As a student in the MBA program, it is very important for you to fully understand the rules and policies to which you will be held while in the program. The purpose of this webpage is to remind you of the most important of these rules and to provide you with a convenient list that you can retain for your reference. Of course, if you have any questions about these or any other rules or procedures, please see Dr. Holleman for advice or clarification.
It is your responsibility to be aware of all rules that are stated in the Graduate School Catalog and the "M" Book. Graduate School rules always supercede Business School rules. Copies of either publication can be obtained from the Graduate School.
It is your responsibility to have read your Notice of Admission to the Graduate School carefully and completely. You will be held to all of the conditions of admission that are listed on your notice. If you have lost your copy, you can obtain a copy from Dr. Holleman.
It is your responsibility to make sure that your MBA advisor has your current address and telephone number at all times. If a letter is sent to the address that is listed as current in your file, you are assumed to have received it and to have read it.
All MBA students must maintain at least a 3.00 grade average in coursework with no grade lower than "C" at all times. The retention policy for the MBA program is as follows:
Any student whose graduate GPA falls below 3.00 or who earns a grade lower than "C" in any graduate course or who earns more than one "C" grade in any semester will either be immediately dismissed from the program or placed on probation for the subsequent semester of enrollment. The decision for dismissal versus probation will be made by a committee of the MBA faculty based on the overall performance of the student to date. A student who is allowed to continue the program on probation will have one semester to rectify any deficiencies as prescribed by the MBA Committee. Failure to do so may result in permanent dismissal from the program. Grades of "I" (incomplete) during the probation period will not be included in the calculation of the student's GPA at the end of the semester of probation; the conditions of the probation must be satisfied based on the other grades earned during the semester.
Grades below "C" are unacceptable and must be repeated. Students may repeat only one graduate-level course, and that course may be repeated only one time.
Students who are admitted in Conditional standing are admitted on probation and must complete the first two courses, MBA 621 and MBA 612, with at least a 3.0 GPA to be retained in the program.
Students on academic probation may be ineligible for assistantships, fellowships, scholarships, or other forms of financial aid.
All assistantships and fellowships provided by the School of Business Administration require full (non-probationary) standing to remain in effect. It is the responsibility of the student to understand all conditions of their financial aid relating to minimum acceptable academic performance.
It is the right of the student to appeal any action, including academic dismissal. Appeals of academic dismissal should be made in writing, addressed to the MBA Committee, and presented to Dr. Holleman in 253 Holman Hall as soon as possible following formal notification of the action. All appeals will be reviewed when the MBA Committee can be convened, and the student will be notified of the decision as soon as possible following the meeting.
