Small
Business Development Center Hurricane Relief Fund
More than two hundred
thousand small businesses located in the three
states most directly impacted by Hurricane Katrina
face an immediate threat to their survival in the
aftermath of the storm. Insurance industry
statistics indicate that it is not unusual for up to
43% of businesses that close their doors due to a
major disaster to stay closed forever. Furthermore,
up to 29% of businesses that somehow managed to
reopen might be forced to close their doors
permanently within two years.
The challenge that
confronts the SBDC network is getting enough
counselors in the field in the very near term. These
counselors have a significant impact on the number
of accurate and complete loan applications submitted
for disaster assistance by the owners of the small
businesses affected. Your support will help fund
the logistics of the Mississippi SBDC in its
hurricane relief efforts.
