The University is very fortunate in being located in Oxford, Mississippi, a truly great place to live. USA Today recently named Oxford as one of the Top 100 Small Towns in America and one of the Top 6 College Towns in America. It doesn't take long to see why.

The University of Mississippi

Established in 1848, The University of Mississippi is a comprehensive research institution encompassing four campuses: Oxford, Southaven, Tupelo and the Medical Center in Jackson. The main campus in Oxford is a canvas of natural beauty and Greek revival architecture coupled with the latest in learning technology. The university ranks among the nation’s best in cultivating Rhodes scholars, Truman scholars and leaders in all fields of industry, education and public service. The University of Mississippi is located about 75 miles southeast of Memphis, Tennessee. It is easily accessed from Interstate 55 and is less than a six-hour drive from Atlanta, New Orleans and Nashville.

Ole Miss ranks in the top 10 U.S. public universities in the nation graduating Rhodes Scholars (24). Since 1998, Ole Miss has produced four Truman Scholars, five Goldwater Scholars, a Marshall Scholar and four Fulbright Scholars. For its sustained success in producing Truman scholars, UM was named one of three 2004 Truman Foundation Honor Institutions in the nation.

Sports Illustrated ranked Ole Miss in the top 25 college football weekends.

Kaplan’s New College Guide ranked Ole Miss an one of the top 25 most beautiful college campuses.

In a recent national competition, a team of Ole Miss MBA students bested 22 teams from the nation’s premier business schools, including those at Carnegie Mellon, Yale, Columbia and University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School).

Literature & the Arts

Oxford is reknowned as the home of Nobel Laureate William Faulkner, and since been home to many famous writers including John Grisham, Willie Morris, Barry Hannah, Cynthia Shearer, and Larry Brown. It has become center for writers and artists of all types. The annual Double Decker Festival draws people from all over the country for art, food, music, and fun.

Music

Oxford is home to many venues for live music of all types, including blues, rock, country, bluegrass, and more. It has an incredibly rich musical heritage, as evidenced by its thriving live music scene seven nights a week.

Food

New Orleans is known as the Big Easy, but Oxford has earned the nicname - "Little Easy". One big reason for this is the large number of wonderful restaurants with lots of local flavor. Whether it's BBQ from Handy Andy's, pizza from Proud Larry's, sushi at Two Stick, or just good 'ol southern cooking at Ajax Diner, Oxford does it the right way -- the local way.
