Where is the Academic Advising Office for business students?

It is located in 220 Holman Hall. Advisors are available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

How do I drop a class?

You may drop any course online without permission until 4:45 p.m. on the assigned course withdrawal deadline. Keep in mind that dropping your enrollment below 12 credit hours affects eligibility for financial aid, scholarships, housing, and insurance. Only in extreme medical or emergency situations, and only with permission from the Dean, may courses be dropped after the course withdrawal deadline.

How do I add a class?

The last day to add a class (provided it is open) without the instructor’s permission is the 5th day of classes. Between the 5th and 10th day of classes, you must submit an add slip, signed by the Instructor, to the Academic Advising Office in Holman 220. After the 10th day of classes, courses may be added only under extraordinary circumstances and with permission from the Dean.

What if I want to take a class at another college or university?

You must obtain written approval from an advisor prior to taking courses at another school for those courses to apply to your BBA degree. After completing the course at the other institution, you must have an official transcript sent to the Registrar’s Office at Ole Miss.

How do I change my major?

Business majors should make an appointment with an advisor to discuss the requirements for the new major. When you decide on another major, your advisor will complete a current program sheet for the new major.

Non-business majors should get an unofficial copy of their transcript from the Registrar’s Office and make an appointment with an advisor in Holman 220 to discuss majors.

What is a non-business elective?

A non-business elective is any course outside the School of Business Administration or the School of Accountancy. Of course, you will need to satisfy the prerequisites for any non-business elective that you take.

When can I be advised for the next semester?

You can be advised for the next semester beginning in the third week of the current semester.

When and how do I apply for graduation?

At least one semester before graduation, business students must come to the Academic Advising Office in Holman 220 to complete a Letter of Intent to Graduate. After you have filled out the Letter of Intent, you must schedule an appointment with an advisor for a degree audit.

Seniors must complete a Diploma Application before the last day to withdraw from classes in the semester in which they expect to graduate.

How do I find out what classes will transfer from another major or institution?

You should make an appointment with an advisor in the Academic Advising Office in Holman 220. Please bring an unofficial transcript of all prior college work and descriptions of the courses taken at your previous college. The advisor will be glad to perform a transfer evaluation for the degree program of your choice.

How do I find out about orientation?

Students should contact the Office of Orientation at 662-915-1185 to register for summer orientation.

How many hours should I take?

Most freshmen take 15-17 hours per semester (approximately 5 courses). Twelve semester hours are considered full-time status. Dropping below full-time status may affect your eligibility for financial aid, scholarships, sorority/fraternity memberships, etc.

How do I withdraw from ONE course?

You may drop any course from your schedule on the Web prior to the Course Withdrawal Date. No approval is needed to drop a course at this time (Just be sure to remain enrolled in at least 12 hours). A course dropped before the deadline will NOT remain on your record. In rare cases, and only in extreme medical or emergency situations, and only with permission from the Dean's Office my courses be dropped after the published deadline with a grade of "W" or "F" on your transcript. Grade dissatisfaction is NOT a reason to ask for a "W" or "F" option. Course withdrawals after the deadline are approved in the Office of the Dean, NOT the Registrar's Office and NOT by your instructor. If the Dean's Office approved your petition to withdraw from a course, your instructor will assign a grade of either "W" (if passing at the time of withdrawal), or "F" (if failing at the time of withdrawal). The instructor always assigns the grade at the end of the semester.

How do I withdraw from ALL my courses?

You must officially withdraw from the University at the Registrar's Office if you decide not to complete a semester. If the final "Drop Date" has passed, grades of "W" or "F" will be assigned by the instructors. Withdrawals from the University are initiated in the Registrar's Office in the Student Services Center in Martindale Hall.

How do I have a grade forgiven?

The Forgiveness Policy allows you to retake a maximum of two courses in which you receive a grade of "D" or "F". The repeat must be in the same course and must be repeated at The University of Mississippi. Forgiveness forms are online and must be submitted to the Registrar's Office.

How do I know my prerequisites?

You are responsible for successfully completing all course prerequisites before you enroll in a course with prerequisites. A list of Business courses that require prerequisities will be provided to you at your advising appointment. Copies are also available to you in the Academic Advising Office.

How do I get transfer or Study Abroad work approved?

You must have advisor approval to take courses elsewhere to apply to your degree program at The University of Mississippi before enrolling in another institution.
